Hunched nude in the glow of his iMac, 17-year-old Darren* typed the words 'gay porn' into Google for the first time.
"I didn't fancy men," he tells me. "I had a girlfriend, and only ever had sexual feelings for women, but I just couldn't shake the plan that I was somehow lying to myself."
He plugged in his headphones, clicked on an X-rated video and took a deep breath. It was around 3am, in the summer of 2007, and relentless fears of homosexuality had tormented him since the start of the year. "I just woke up one day and I was suddenly obsessed with it. It felt appreciate everything I idea I knew about myself was falling apart. It didn't make any sense."
He watched, expecting something significant to stir upstairs or down. But there was nothing. Feeling equivalent measure victory and defeat, Darren switched off the monitor, laid flat on his bed and wrestled with his doubts for a few more hours before finally surrendering to sleep. He carried out the same test almost every night for the next three weeks, always with the same result.

Feb. 24, 2014— -- Steven Brodsky, a psychologist who specializes in obsessive-compulsive disorder, says that at any one time he has a "handful" of clients who are straight and suspect that they are gay.
Brodsky, who is the clinical director of his OCD and Panic Center of N.Y. and N.J., said he had one adult patient who was so crippled by obsessive thoughts about being homosexual that he was unable to survive independently and had to move help in with his parents to cope. Brodsky said he determined his patient had OCD connected with homosexuality.
"He had a classic case," said Brodsky. "He had some sort of feeling that he was attracted to other guys."
This patient was linear, according to Brodsky, but he had intrusive thoughts that were not based on any difficult reality in his behavior.
Brodsky said a previous therapist had misdiagnosed his patient as gay, and at the patient's request, sent him off to reparative therapy, a controversial method that has not been proven to be operative and can be harmful.

The macro has been used as a non-sequitur reply to official social media posts by Better Call Saul since October 2021 and achieved virality on Twitter in late April 2022.

OCD, as we know, is largely about experiencing drastic and unrelenting doubt. It can cause you to doubt even the most basic things about yourself – even your sexual orientation. A 1998 examination published in the Journal of Sex Research start that among a organization of 171 college students, 84% reported the occurrence of sexual intrusive thoughts (Byers, et al. 1998). In order to hold doubts about one’s sexual identity, a sufferer dependency not ever have had a homo- or heterosexual experience, or any type of sexual experience at all. I have observed this symptom in new children, adolescents, and adults as well. Interestingly Swedo, et al., 1989, found that approximately 4% of children with OCD experience obsessions concerned with forbidden assertive or perverse sexual thoughts.
