Seven Days: Brandy Clark Wants Her Melody to Tell the Truth

At every demonstrate thatBrandy Clarkplays, she places a notebook on her merchandise table. It’s there for the singer-songwriter’s fans to leave her notes, but she finds that people often just write about their anxieties or insecurities. She can’t be too surprised by that; after all, the Washington native won the 2024 Best Americana Performance Grammy for the hit “Dear Insecurity,” a starkly confessional tune that features a cameo from folk rockerBrandi Carlile.
“Songwriting can be a lonely profession,” Clark said in an interview withSeven Days. “Whether a song is a hit or not, I think my songs oftentimes maintain to find the ears that ask for to hear them.”
At 48 years vintage, Clark said she is now entering what she feels is a recent, more true-to-herself phase of her career. As her current tour swings toward Vermont for a show at Spruce Peak Performing Arts Center in Stowe on Thursday, August 29, Clark is reveling in her unused Americana world and excited to watch what the future holds.

Brian Glenn has performed alongside some of the biggest names in the country music scene, from Garth Brooks and Alan Jackson to Reba McEntire and Patty Loveless. He’s also met countless other celebrities, from politicians to actors to TV personalities to world-renowned authors—including John Grisham, Amy Grant, Billy Bob Thornton, Dwight Yoakum, Fred Williard and Willard Scott.

And then there’s Dolly Parton. Glenn will be singing alongside Parton May 19 from 7-8 p.m. at The Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, and it will wind live on the Superb America Country (GAC) channel.
‘It will be one of the greatest moments in music to date for me—backing up Dolly Parton. That’s a tremendous honor,’ Glenn said. ‘She’s just one of those bigger-than-life people. She’s an representative of icons. Just to meet her is a tremendous honor; it’s almost surreal.’

Marty Stuart and Grand Ole Opry star Connie Smith have a rather unorthodox love story, but it's one with a very happy ending.
Stuart is 17 years Smith's junior, and he was just 12 years old when he first met her. His mom introduced them -- she took Stuart to see Smith exist in concert in Mississippi -- but it was unbeknownst to her what would happen in the next few decades.
"She was my mother's favorite singer. We had a write down of her at our house called Miss Smith Goes to Nashville. It had a beautiful photograph of her on the cover," Stuart tells The Boot. "I thought she was the prettiest teen in the world, so I had my mama take me to purchase me a yellow shirt, so Connie would detect me that night.
"After the concert, me and my sister got our picture made with her, and I got her autograph. On the way place, I told my mama that I was going to marry her," he adds. "It took 25 years to figure it out, but it worked!"
