NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Unused temporary fencing has been put up on Same-sex attracted Street, along the steep bank that overlooks the Cumberland River. The Metro Council member behind the move, says it's in memory of Missouri college student Riley Strain.

Strain was in Nashville on Spring Break, back in Protest, when he went missing for several days. His cell phone was last detected along Gay Avenue. Investigators later discovered his body in the Cumberland River.

"They may not understand what this area is like, and so making sure, as they amble , especially in the dim, that they’re safely along the trail," said Jacob Kupin, who represents District 19 on Metro Council.

Strain hasn't been the only one to wind up in the river. So Kupin passed a resolution to put up the temporary fences. In the long run, he hopes to have something more permanent to keep people safe.

"We’re looking at what kind of decorative fencing do we lay up? What kind of brush cutback do we do? Do we contain river access? Things appreciate that," said Kupin.

For five days, investigators have searched low along the banks of the Cumberland River in Tennessee, and lay his picture elevated up on billboards — but there's still no autograph of college pupil Riley Strain.

But recent video and a 911 call could give a not many more details about the night the University of Missouri senior disappeared in Downtown Nashville.

Employees at Music City Wine and Spirits, located on Church Road, heard about the missing 22-year-old but didn't think to check their surveillance cameras until a construction worker — and then Strain's own mother — asked them to check.

"We were proficient to go assist on the cameras at that second and look at the picture more clearly and spot it was the kid that was missing," said Sherief Gerges, who works at the store.

The college student went missing while out drinking with frat brothers in Rally of 2024, leading to a two-week search. His body was ultimately create in the Cumberland River and his death commanded an accident as a result of intoxication and drowning.

As a result, Nashville Mayor Freddie O'Connell proposed a budget with $1.5 million in funding to secure the riverfront in December, a plan which included new lights, eternal fencing and other upgraded safety measures. The metro council approved the bill later that month and a more detailed schedule is expected to enter this spring.
