The ILGA World Conference is the largest global gathering of LGBTIQ changemakers. We include held them since the early days of the organisation in the 1970s, and they contain been fundamental events for our movement ever since.

An ILGA World Conference is a chance to assess where our communities stand, split experiences and foremost practices, build alliances and partnerships, consider the future of our movement, and collectively chart ways to advance equality worldwide.

As the premier gathering for our member organisations and allies, an ILGA World Conference is also where the being of the organisation is shaped. ILGA members elect their representatives, advance options and constitutional changes, and endorse modern organisations to connect our family.

San Diego Awarded International LGBTQ Pride Conference in 2023

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (November 22, 2021) — San Diego Pride has secured the bid to host the InterPride General Encounter & World Conference in 2023 bringing together hundreds of Pride organizers from across the globe.

InterPride is the international Pride membership organization founded in 1982 by a handful of Pride organizers including San Diegan Doug Moore who began to compile a list of global Celebration organizers in 1981. 

”I am really happy and confident to hear that San Diego will be hosting InterPride here again, 40 years after we hosted the 2nd conference,” said San Diego Pride board emeritus Doug Moore. “I never thought those first conferences would create an organization involving the whole world. Congratulations San Diego Pride!”

InterPride member organizations typically meet in person every year during Regional Conferences and the General Conference & World Conference (GM&WC), though the COVID-19 pandemic has required the group to host the conference virtually in 2020 and 2021. When I entered the 2023 LGBTQ+ International Leaders Conference – held annually by the Victory Institute –  with Ross Murray, Vice President of the GLAAD Media Institute, and Brian Martin, Consultant to the GLAAD Media Institute, to interview and consult with over 135 elected leaders throughout the country – including 80 elected officials who joined a messaging workshop titled Soundbites and Beyond: Effective Messaging on Anti-LGBTQ+ Bill, I expected elected officials to concentrate on how over 500 anti-LGBTQ bills has informed their position to struggle for LGBTQ equality. 

For instance, Atlanta City Councilwoman Keisha Sean Waites says homelessness and housing are foremost priority for the city. 

“I started the conversation by saying that I am an out Black, miss. I don’t identify with being LGBTQ first, I first identify as a Black woman. I am very familiar with the idea of isolation, I am very familiar with the idea of alienation, I am very familiar with the idea of ‘can you scribe, grab notes, and go clutch our coffee,’ so I’m used to being in those spaces,’” said Waites.
